The use of chamomile as an ingredient in products for skin care
There are two plants known as chamomile name. One is the German chamomile (Matricaria recutita), while the other is called the Roman or English chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile). In general, herbalists considered to be German chamomile the stronger of the two acting.
What is Chamomile
About 120 chemicals have been identified in chamomile as secondary metabolites, including 28 terpenoids, 36 flavonoids and 52 other compounds with potential pharmacological activity (Salamon, 1997). The studies also have shown that the German Chamomile has strong antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. While Roman chamomile is used for anxiety, stress and other disorders of the nervous system and muscle spasms, etc.
What came of chamomile
Manzanilla Roman is a creeping, herbaceous perennial, native from northwestern Europe and North Africa. Fits with the ground and can reach up to 30 cm high, while German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita) is native to Europe and western Asia and naturalized in north america (UMM, 2009).
What are the properties of camomile
Medication use chamomile dates back to ancient Egyptians, Romans and Greeks.
German chamomile is often used in a topical cream or ointment to soothe irritated skin due to its antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral. There is ample evidence that may be moderately effective in the treatment of eczema.
The essential oil of Roman chamomile is mainly chamazulene, angelic acid, hydrogen and various tiglic Sesquiterpenes lactones. Other components include chamomile Roman anthemic acid, athesterol, anthemene, resin and tannin. The essential oil of German Chamomile contains chamazulene,-bisabolol, bisabololaxides-A and B-cis spathulenol En-yn-Farnesene and dicycloether. Other components of German chamomile include a volatile oil, anthemic acid, antheminidine, tannin, matricarin and apigenin (Purdue University, 1997).
Using cosmetics chamomile
Chamomile is known as one of the main analgesics, anti-inflammatory and wound healing, relieve pain, redness and promote any cause the repair of the skin.
It is good for dry, red, hot and sensitive skin and anti-allergenic, making it very useful ingredient chamomile natural products for skin care purpose of this skin type.
German chamomile a more effective due to their higher content chamazulene also gives the name of "super blue. As most of the essential oils of Chamomile has antiseptic properties and hence is used in the natural care products the skin as a skin cleanser and decongestant.
Chamomile is used by herbalists as a plant extract that can be used within a range of health such as blocked tear ducts, canker sores (ulcers), colic, diarrhea, eczema, gingivitis (periodontal disease), indigestion and heartburn, insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome, peptic ulcer and skin irritation.
Externally, it can be used in creams or ointments applied to the skin to any problem of skin that is a constitution of irritation, inflammation, or infection. It is often combined with other herbs or essential oils like lavender, marigold and others.
